Date format rant: Use ISO YYYY-MM-DD already!

When are people going to stop using MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY (referring to the date conventions they used on the webpage, and not IBAdmin / Firebird per se) format and finally switch over to the ISO YYYY-MM-DD standard?

Non-IT people can be forgiven somewhat for sticking to what they are used to. But for those of us working in a profession where ambiguity represents a deadly poison, to still insist on using one of the worst examples of such when a perfectly usable alternative exists is just unconscionable.

  • I must agree with you here. My company (70k employess) uses several different date conventions, depending on the app, but none are YYYY MM DD.

One set of interfaces actually demands DD MMM YY. Who would be nerdy enough to require a non-standard (for the U.S.) format but be dumb enough to stick with two-digit years?
